Rovers rout Cambridge at packed-out Memorial Stadium

Billy Bodin netted twice as a crowd of more than 10,000 people at the Memorial Stadium saw Bristol Rovers enhance their automatic promotion claims in Sly Bet League Two with a 3-0 win over Cambridge.

Bodin put Rovers ahead on nine minutes, transferring the ball onto his right foot 30 yards out and beating Will Norris with a low drive that the Cambridge goalkeeper should have saved by diving to his left.

It was 2-0 on 18 minutes as Dan Leadbitter delivered a cross from the right and Bodin used the pace on the ball to glance home a header from outside the near post.

Any doubt about the outcome was erased on 73 minutes when Matt Taylor cut inside Josh Coulson to net with a left-footed shot from 10 yards.

Both keepers had plenty to do in the first half, Norris saving from Ollie Clarke, Bodin, Rory Gaffney and Cristian Montano, while Steve Mildenhall blocked efforts from Jimmy Spencer and Luke Berry.

Norris made the best save of the game on 59 minutes, tipping Taylor's shot around a post.
