Super-sub Jermaine Easter inspires Bristol Rovers win

Jermaine Easter scored with his first touch as a substitute to inspire Bristol Rovers to a 2-1 win and extend York's losing run to nine matches.

The visitors took a 41st-minute lead when striker Vadaine Oliver was allowed to move unmarked on to James Berrett's diagonal ball from the left and buried a right-footed volley from eight yards.

But the match turned in the 70th minute when Easter replaced Billy Bodin and netted within seconds, heading past Scott Flinders when Lee Mansell's driven free-kick was deflected into the air by a defender.

Top scorer Matt Taylor grabbed the winner as the game went into stoppage time, chesting down a cross from another substitute Jake Gosling and shooting past Flinders from close range for his 14th goal of the season.

Rovers found it hard to create first-half chances against hard-working opponents, Taylor going closest with a 40th-minute shot which was blocked by Flinders.

The hosts improved after the break but the outcome was tough on a York side who battled for every ball.
