Rovers beat Burton

Second-half goals from David Clarkson and John-Joe O'Toole gave improving Bristol Rovers a 2-0 victory over promotion-seeking Burton at the Memorial Stadium.

Clarkson headed home a right wing cross from Michael Smith at the far post to break the deadlock after 70 minutes.

And nine minutes later O'Toole netted his 14th goal of the season from close range after Robert Lainton had parried Clarkson's volley.

Rovers were the better side throughout and it took a brilliant save from Lainton to keep out a curling Lee Brown shot for the hosts after 15 minutes.

Clarkson headed just wide and Chris Beardsley failed to make contact with a Brown cross when well placed to score as the home side built some promising moves.

Kaid Mohamed shot inches wide from 25 yards out and had a header narrowly off target, while Burton's most dangerous moment came just before the break when Adam McGurk fired wide after Steve Mildenhall had saved from Zeli Ismail.

It was a below par performance from the visitors, who could have no complaints with the final result.
