Kemar Roofe strike raises the roof for Oxford United

Kemar Roofe's superb second half strike maintained Oxford United's excellent unbeaten start to the Sky Bet League Two campaign as a 1-0 victory at Bristol Rovers took them up to fourth.

The winning goal came on 62 minutes when Roofe connected sweetly with the right-footed half-volley from the corner of the box and left Rovers goalkeeper Aaron Chapman clutching at thin air.

Both sides finished with 10 men, Rovers' Ollie Clarke shown a straight red card for a 17th minute aerial challenge on Danny Rose and Oxford's Liam Sercombe given a second yellow for bringing down Matt Taylor on 58 minutes.

Neither goalkeeper saw much action in the first half. Ryan Taylor should have done better for the visitors when heading over from George Baldock's 36th minute cross.

After Roofe had given the away fans plenty to shout about, there was concern for Oxford when he had to be substituted on 75 minutes clutching his arm, while the hosts had some good chances to equalise.

Jermaine Easter volleyed straight at Sam Slocombe on 66 minutes and Tom Parkes headed into the arms of the Oxford keeper 12 minutes from time.

Slocombe then produced the best save of the game at full stretch to keep out Chris Lines' 86th minute free kick.
