James Tavernier has made a big impression at Ashton Gate since joining League One champions Bristol City on loan from Wigan in January.

A string of excellent performances have endeared himself to the Robins’ faithful – and he’s chipped in with a few goals too.

The former Newcastle player has had a string of loan spells with the likes of Carlisle, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham, and now City.

Three wins and three draws during April ensured the Robins took the League One title, and Tavernier played a big part – notably in the 6-0 promotion-sealing win at Bradford when he scored twice.

The 23-year-old enjoyed promotion through the League One play-offs while on loan at Rotherham United last season before sealing a summer transfer to Wigan where he signed a three-year deal.

An online poll amongst Bristol City fans suggests the West Country club should make Tavernier’s loan move a permanent one with the Robins promoted and parent club Wigan relegated to League One.

In League Two, the Fans’ Player of the Month award goes to Lucas Akins who has been a shining light in Burton Albion’s impressive progression under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Current Birmingham boss Gary Rowett laid the foundations at the Pirelli, building on Nigel Clough’s good work, and Hasselbaink has taken the club to the next level – League One.

The Brewers cruised through April unbeaten before securing the League Two title on the final day, and Akins played a key role throughout.

He was on target in vital wins against Northampton and Morecambe (two) and finished the season as the club’s leading scorer with nine.
