Robins receive stadium boost

Bristol City's hopes of moving to a new ground have received a huge lift after the local council rubber-stamped the deal. The Robins are planning on leaving their Ashton Gate home and moving to a purpose-built venue at Ashton Vale. Their plans were `approved in principal' in November, and were given the green light at a meeting of Bristol City Council on Wednesday night after the club responded to a number of questions over the stadium's viability. The application to proceed with construction now needs approval from the Secretary of State as it is to be built on green belt land, but chief executive Colin Sexstone is more than pleased with the outcome. "It is a good result," he told his club's official website. "We have got through this big hurdle. There are a few more to go, but this is good news."
