City have already unveiled proposals for a new 30,000-seater stadium in Ashton Vale and are due to lodge a planning application later this month, with the aim of opening in time for the 2012/13 season. The drive for a new regional stadium coincides with Bristol's bid to be a host city at the 2018 or 2022 World Cup should it come to England, which would then see the capacity of the stadium increased to 42,000. Regarding the latest discussions with Tesco, a statement on City's official website read: "The aim is to ensure the club achieves maximum value for the site, while also boosting the economic well-being of south Bristol. "All monies received from the sale of Ashton Gate will go towards the development of the new regional stadium, which will be the home of Bristol City football club. "Both Ashton Gate and Ashton Vale will be one of the biggest developments seen in Bristol for many years. The new stadium will give the region a huge economic boost as well as enabling Bristol to bid to be a host city for the 2018 World Cup."
