Robins hammered by classy Ajax
The Dutch giants outplayed the Robins to run out comfortable winners in their pre-season friendly at Ashton Gate.
Johnson told the Bristol Evening Post: "If you ask me was it down to their brilliance and our failings, I'd have to say it was a bit of both.
"I think our supporters understand that Ajax are far superior to anything we will meet in the Championship and they showed that.
"I warned our lads they would have to work very hard to get the ball back if they gave it away, and they will have learned a lot from this experience.
"Ajax defend very high up the field and, if you look at the goals they scored, they all stemmed from us losing possession."
