Both sides hit the woodwork twice in an open pre-season clash at Whaddon Road, and David Clarkson netted for City to cancel out David Bird's strike. Johnson told the club's official website: "There were a lot of chances for either side - we need to create more at one end and stop them creating at the other end. "I don't want to see a really open game, but sometimes in pre-season it's good to see your defenders put under pressure in order to see how well they cope. "I thought it was a thoroughly entertaining game for all those in attendance. "I was also pleased for David for the goal. He could have scored just before with a header but he made no mistake from close range. After the Ajax defeat it was nice to get a goal and create some chances."
