Johnson frustrated by Iron late show

The Robins manager was 30 seconds away from celebrating maximum points from four Championship home games after a goal on his Ashton Gate debut from Costa Rica international Alvaro Saborio before Grant McCann scored at the death.[LNB]Saborio looked to have earned City the points when smashing the ball home from close range at the second attempt on 50 minutes after a Marcus Williams attempted clearance had ricocheted off a team mate.[LNB]But McCann's deflected shot after the home side failed to clear a free kick from the halfway line deflated the normally bubbly Johnson and gave 10-man Scunthorpe an unlikely draw.[LNB]The visitors had used all their substitutes when one of them, Gary Hooper, strained a hamstring 10 minutes from time. That made City's failure to clinch victory all the more frustrating for Johnson.[LNB]Johnson said: "I'm not going to be too critical of the lads because I thought we played well. But one good header from a set piece would have cleared it and won us the game.[LNB]"We conceded some unnecessary free kicks and if you do that and invite the opposition to put balls into the box you are asking for trouble.[LNB]"It won't be easy looking at the video of the equaliser and I couldn't face the players with a smile after the game. But I was pleased with a lot of our play and I hope our supporters won't forget how well we passed the ball.[LNB]"It was good for Alvaro's confidence that he got a goal and I am sure that he and Nicky Maynard can form a successful partnership."[LNB]Delighted Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins said: "It was an excellent point for us against a very good footballing side. We've had an excellent week.[LNB]"I had to change our shape quickly from the 4-3-3 we wanted to play to nullify their extra men in midfield. So we went 4-4-2 with two holding midfielders and created a number of chances.[LNB]"Jonathon Forte had a goal disallowed for offside, which I thought was very close but won't comment on until I have seen the video and their keeper made several good saves.[LNB]"Bristol's goal was a comedy of errors from our perspective, but we stuck at it, worked very hard and even with 10 men at the end got our just reward."[LNB]City gave a home debut to midfield Evander Snow, on loan from Ajax, who looked strong on the ball throughout.[LNB]But it was home goalkeeper Adriano Basso who made the best saves from a Martyn Woolford header and a Paul Hayes shot.[LNB]Both teams had goals disallowed early on. Saborio looked clearly offside when tapping home Snow's cross-shot, but it looked a closer call when Forte did the same from Sam Togwell's centre.[LNB][LNB]
