The 32-year-old is currently down the pecking order at Ashton Gate and has seen his progress hampered further this summer after suffering badly blistered feet. And Johnson has told the former Swansea man that he needs to up his game if he is to force his way into his thinking ahead of the new season. "We felt Lee didn't come back as fit as he might have been," Johnson told the Bristol Evening Post. "Because some of the other lads had already done some work before July 1, Lee found himself behind them and having to play catch-up. "Of course, that creates problems of its own and now he's picked up an injury trying to make up lost ground. "Lee is behind the others in terms of fitness and has a lot of ground to make up."
