Chief confident of stadium success

Lansdown's ambitious plan is to start work on a new Stadium by 2013, which could be part of a possible 2018 World Cup bid when completed. Plans for the stadium are not finalised as complications could arise over planning permission and naming rights.

But Lansdown is remaining positive. He said: "We are well on target, things are going on the right lines and I'm confident we'll get there.

"Planning for a new stadium is vital - it will give us a new start. We've been in here for a hundred odd years but you get a little bit stale with that that.

"Ashton Gate's been a great place, but the new stadium with all the benefits it will bring to us with the extra capacity, extra infrastructure - we can build on that and make ourselves into a bigger and hopefully better club."
