Bristol City set up Ajax friendly

Bristol City have lined up a pre-season friendly against Ajax on Wednesday, 15 July at Ashton Gate.Robins boss Gary Johnson told his club's website: "It will be a great test for us. "It shows just how far we have come as a club that a team like Ajax are happy to come to Ashton Gate as part of their preparations for the new season." Ajax finished third in the Dutch Eredivisie last term and boss Marco van Basten has been replaced by Martin Jol. Former Tottenham manager Jol has returned to his homeland to join the four-time European champions on a three-year deal after a season at the helm of Hamburg in the German Bundesliga. Ajax are captained by Belgium international defender Thomas Vermaelen and include Dutch internationals Kenneth Vermeer, Urby Emanuelson and former Celtic midfielder Evander Sno in their ranks. City open their pre-season programme against Hereford on Monday, 13 July, and after the Ajax match they have lined up games against Cheltenham, Weymouth, Dorchester, Wolves, Yeovil and Wycombe.
