Elliott keeps City on top

Wade Elliott fired a 74th-minute winner to give leaders Bristol City a thrilling 3-2 home win over nearest challengers MK Dons.

The experienced midfielder beat Antony Kay to shoot past Dons goalkeeper David Martin just seconds after his weak back-pass had allowed Benik Afobe to shoot the visitors level at 2-2.

Keiran Agard opened the scoring in the fourth minute when left with a simple tap-in after Mark Little had beaten Dean Lewington to Joe Bryan's cross and slipped the ball past Martin.

The striker doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 35th minute after going down under a challenge from Kyle McFadzean. The defender protested the decision, but had got too close to his man and had made contact from behind.

MK Dons got back in the game soon after the break when Dean Bowditch fired home from 12 yards after City goalkeeper Frank Fielding had made a double save to deny Ben Reeves and Afobe.

The visitors had a lot of good possession in the first half and posed a threat going forward, while always looking vulnerable to City's raids.

Afobe and Dean Bowditch forced saves from Fielding in a match that was a credit to Sky Bet League One.
