Robins ride luck to rumble on

Aden Flint and substitute Greg Cunningham scored second-half goals as Bristol City maintained their unbeaten start to the Sky Bet League One season with a 2-0 home victory over Scunthorpe.

Flint broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, heading in at the far post from Luke Freeman's corner and Cunningham wrapped up the points within seconds of stepping off the bench, beating visiting goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik with a sweetly-struck left-footed shot from Korey Smith's pass.

City could have had more goals, but were given a test defensively by their enterprising opponents, who created several chances.

The first half saw Scunthorpe break dangerously out of defence and have the better opportunities.

Gary McSheffrey was unlucky to see a 20th-minute shot from just inside the box rebound back into play off a post.

McSheffrey and strike partner Paddy Madden also shot wide from good openings, while at the other end Aaron Wilbraham and Luke Freeman tested Olejnik, while Joe Bryan showed up well on the left.

Derrick Williams and Smith also put in decent goal efforts for the hosts, but they looked vulnerable to Scunthorpe's quick counter-attacks and Sean McAllister had a 43rd-minute shot deflected wide.
