Slade swings Seagulls axe

Brighton boss Russell Slade has released nine first-team players following the club's flirtation with relegation this season.

Slade, who took over in March and helped keep the Seagulls in League One, has told Kerry Mayo, Tommy Fraser, Adam Hinshelwood, John Sullivan, Doug Loft, Jake Robinson, Chris Birchall, Seb Carole and Jason Jarrett that they are free to leave.

Youngsters Sam Gargan, Kane Louis, Andy Pearson, Dan Royce and Kane Wills have also left the club, while loanees Gary Borrowdale, Al Bangura and Calvin Andrew have all returned to their parent clubs.

However, the Seagulls have offered new deals to Andrew Whing, Lloyd Owusu and Gary Hart.

"There have been some difficult decisions to make," admitted Slade.

"Telling players there's no new deal on offer is the most difficult thing of the job."
