Scrapping stop Seagulls friendly

Published: 25 Jul 2010 - 11:30:49

Brighton's latest pre-season friendly ended in farce after their match with Portuguese side Portimonense was abandoned following a mass confrontation. The Seagulls were 2-0 down when an off-the-ball clash involving Albion striker Ashley Barnes and Portimonense forward Ivanildo sparked the incident, with players and staff from both sides getting involved before the referee refused to continue. But boss Gus Poyet played down the fracas, saying: "The togetherness was the best part."It is difficult to draw positives when the match almost ended with a fight but everyone reacted very well together."
