Poyet clinches Calderon coup

Brighton manager Gus Poyet has bolstered his defensive options by snapping up the former Deportivo Alaves captain Inigo Calderon.

The 28-year-old was a free agent after leaving the Spanish second division club last summer.

Calderon has featured in more than 250 first-team appearances in Spain during two spells with Alaves and as well as a period with Alicante.

Poyet said: "I've known him for some time. He's powerful, good on the ball and brings something different to the club."
