Forster calls for patience
26 Oct 2009 - 13:30:51
Brighton captain Nicky Forster has pleaded with the club to give boss Russell Slade more time to turn the team's fortunes around.
The former Yeovil Town manager guided the Seagulls away from the relegation zone last term, but Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Oldham Athletic saw Slade's team slip into the bottom four once again.
The players were booed off the pitch by the Withdean Stadium faithful, but Forster insisted: "All managers need time. I've made no secret of my backing for the gaffer, I think he's a top guy.
"I know a large percentage of the squad feels the same, he just needs that time to get things right.
"We aren't performing as well as we should as a group but, if you look at all managers, sometimes that knee-jerk reaction is not what you need.
"If you change the manager it's going to be another settling in and transitional period and I don't think that's productive for the team at all.
"Most people are buying into what he's doing and it's just a case of finding that little bit of consistency and form and pushing up the league. I'm sure we'll do it."
