Wilkins offered new deal

03 Apr 2007 - 12:52:56

Brighton have offered a long-term contract to manager Dean Wilkins, whose current Withdean Stadium deal expires at the end of this season.

Wilkins replaced Mark McGhee, initially as caretaker boss, seven months ago, and has lifted the Seagulls to 13th in the League One table.

Chairman Dick Knight told the club's official website: "It reflects his achievements since taking over earlier this season and gives him the opportunity to develop the team to mount a realistic challenge to get back to the Championship.

"Dean has earned this new contract. He's in a rapid learning curve and, with the playing squad in transition, has shown great enthusiasm to take the club forward.

"The board is prepared to make the commitment to Dean, so that he can continue this vital team development.

"We'll give him a healthy playing budget for next season to get the right balance of experience and, with Dean's natural desire to encourage good football, I expect Albion fans to be enjoying fascinating times ahead."
