Wilkins named Seagulls boss

29 Sep 2006 - 21:43:51

Dean Wilkins has become the new permanent manager of Brighton and Hove Albion after agreeing a contract running until the end of the season.

The former Seagulls skipper stepped up from his role as youth-team coach to take caretaker charge at the Withdean Stadium following the sacking of Mark McGhee three weeks ago.

He has since impressed the board by guiding the first team to two wins and a draw from five Championship matches.

Dean White has been appointed as assistant-manager, but will have full responsibility for scouting and the recruitment of new players.

Albion chairman Dick Knight told the club's official website: "Through the intensive period of games over the last few weeks, Dean Wilkins has convinced the board that he has the makings of a very good manager.

"All the players and staff have responded well to the two Deans, and I am looking forward to working with them in taking this club forward."

Wilkins added: "I am extremely proud and humble to be given the opportunity to continue to make the necessary changes required to take the club forward in this transitional period."
