Brighton and Hove Albion boss Dean Wilkins felt that his side looked tired in their 2-0 home reverse at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Friday evening.
The Seagulls had already made trips to Torquay United and Doncaster Rovers earlier in the week and Wilkins that that schedule had taken its toll.
He told the club's official website: "It was probably a game too far this week.
"The players need to recover from what has been a gruelling week, against some tough opposition.
"I thought it was still a decent performance and we had the better of the first half, but the first goal was a bit of a sucker punch.
"When we came in at half-time the message was be patient and don't start panicking because we're playing well enough to get ourselves back in the game, but the second goal killed us off.
"Towards the end of the game I thought the players looked very weary and we failed to produce enough quality."
