Relief for Reid

Brighton midfielder Paul Reid is pleased to have sorted out his immediate future after agreeing a new one-year contract with the Seagulls.

The 28-year-old Australian has not played for nine months after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, and is relieved that he will be able to continue his career at the Withdean Stadium.

He told the club's official website: "There's always a doubt in the back of your mind as to whether you're going to get another year or not, so I'm delighted to agree a new contract.

"It was a frustrating season. I was really looking forward to the whole season, and felt I was playing well before I got injured.

"The main thing now is to get fit. Most footballers don't like pre-season, but for the likes of myself, Charlie Oatway and Adam Hinshelwood, who have been out for a long time, any kind of football is good for us - even if it's just running with the other lads."
