Butters refuses to give up

Brighton's veteran defender Guy Butters has not given up hope of winning his place back in Dean Wilkins' first-team plans.

The 38-year-old was dropped after the win against Cheltenham Town but grabbed a hat-trick for the reserves in the 8-1 victory against Aldershot's second string.

"Everyone's coming back from injury now. I wasn't even on the bench on Saturday, so it's going to be even more difficult. All you can do is keep on putting the effort in during training and in games," Butters told the Brighton Argus.

"I've seen it all throughout my career, so nothing surprises me any more. Sometimes you just have to take it on the chin. I'll do what I've always done, get my head down, get on with it and keep fit.

"There's still a long way to go this season. There are a load of games in March and probably injuries to come and suspensions. Who knows what's going to happen?"
