Seagulls star undergoes kidney op

The 24-year-old full-back suffered the shocking injury in the 4-0 defeat by Crewe last month, and despite attempts to save his right kidney it has had to be taken out. McNulty is expected to stay in hospital for another week and will not be fit for the start of next season, but Albion medical staff are confident he will be able to play for the club again. "The idea was to save the kidney if we could but the damage was too great," physio Malcolm Stuart told the club's official website. "It was a long and painful operation but he is making a steady recovery and we see no reason why he should not return to full fitness. "Ten per cent of the population walk around with only one kidney so it's not going to be a problem career-wise, but it is obviously a big blow to Jim."
