Brighton are close to agreeing a new contract with midfielder Liam Bridcutt. The 21-year-old joined the Seagulls in August after being released by Chelsea and has played a major role in their promotion campaign. Bridcutt will be out of contract at the end of the season but boss Gus Poyet wants him on board for their crack at the npower Championship. "Unless something goes crazy we are very close to agreeing something with Liam," Poyet told the club's official website. "I hope it will be sorted sooner rather than later to help everyone. It's important for us to have a player like him and for him to be playing in a team like this. "He was released by Chelsea and was looking for a contract at another club, so both Liam and the club took a bit of a risk and slowly we built a relationship. Now Liam is a better player than when he arrived so we are lucky to have him and he's lucky to have us."
