Seagulls boss hails Elphick response

Elphick was at fault for Southend's late winner in the Seagulls' previous outing, but Slade stuck with the young centre-half at the weekend and was rewarded with a much-improved display. "I thought long and hard about the back four. Life is about making decisions as a manager and I felt that, after the good work they had done, that they deserved a second chance," said Slade. "Those players had got us a result at Millwall, Carlisle and against Wycombe, and I thought they repaid me. "Tommy Elphick was outstanding. I backed him and he showed me how well he can do. "That is the sort of response you want from anybody who has a bad game. Tommy's response should be a lesson for everyone."
