Brighton manager Gus Poyet has paid tribute to the club's fans after his side's promotion to the npower Championship. Poyet has guided the Seagulls to the npower League One title in his first full season in charge and now prepares for life in the second tier at the Amex Stadium. The former Leeds and Tottenham assistant manager thanked the fans for their backing during the successful campaign, which has seen them gain 94 points with one game left to play. "I would like to thank them because they understood the way that I like to play," he told the club's official website. "We changed things a lot at the start of this season and it took the fans a little while as they were not used to that style, but as soon as they got the same mentality as the team, they knew the team would get better and better. "As soon as we started doing well and got to the top, everyone was convinced and that togetherness between the fans helped us a lot to become champions."
