Poyet named new Brighton manager

Former Tottenham and Uruguay international Gus Poyet has been appointed manager of League One club Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 41-year-old left his post as assistant manager of Tottenham in October last year, and has previously worked as a coach at Swindon and Leeds United.

Poyet replaces Russell Slade, and has signed a deal until the end of next season and will be assisted by his former Spurs team-mate Tarrico.

"Gus is one of the best up and coming young coaches in this country," said Albion chairman Tony Bloom. "We are delighted to give him his first opportunity in management.

"His credentials are exceptional and all of the reports we have had on his coaching ability are outstanding."
