Summer signing Gordon Greer has been named the new Brighton captain for the 2010/11 npower League One campaign. The Scottish central defender, who joined from Swindon for an undisclosed fee, takes over from Andrew Crofts after he moved to Championship newcomers Norwich. Boss Gus Poyet told the club`s official website: "Gordon is an experienced centre-half with great presence on the pitch. He is very vocal and organises the players very well, through his knowledge of the game. "He was captain of his club last season and lead them to a successful year so he knows what is needed and expected from him. Just through his arrival into the squad earlier in the month he made an instant impression on the rest of the players so I see him as the right man for the job." Greer added: "I had no idea I would be made captain when I arrived at the club but now the gaffer has spoken to me I'm delighted and it's a great honour. "I've had the role before at Swindon last season, as well as a few of the pre-season games since my arrival, so I feel ready. We have a great bunch of lads here and although I'll be wearing the captain's armband we are a team with a number of players that will organise and be vocal with me, so I'm looking forward to the season ahead."
