Brighton Boss Chris Hughton: Draw Was A Fair Result

Chris Hughton was pleased to see his Brighton side carve another notch on their unbeaten start to the season in a 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday and admitted the result was a fair reflection of the evening's entertainment at Hillsborough.

They may have lost top spot, with other results not going their way, but the Seagulls boss was certainly not too downhearted.

He said: "I think that was a fair result, I don't think either team deserved to win or lose it. We look to win every game, but in the form Wednesday are in, and with the options they have got, we will take a point."

In a game of few chances, Wednesday went closest before the break when Ross Wallace's ambitious 20-yard volley skidded inches wide, while Jack Hunt latched on to an excellent lobbed pass from Wallace, but saw his fierce effort touched behind by David Stockdale.

Brighton fashioned the better opportunities early in the second half, with centre-back Uwe Hunemeier stabbing wide after Solly March's free-kick caused a scramble in the Wednesday box, while Sam Baldock's well-hit effort was parried by Keiren Westwood.

Wednesday piled forward late on, with sub Atdhe Nuhiu playing in Daniel Pudil, who flashed an effort just wide, before the big striker nearly barged his side in front, but his shot was deflected into the side-netting.

Hughton added: "We are showing a lot more resilience now and have had some really good performances and if you cannot be at your best and not lose then it is a good sign."

On the string of draws - four in six games now - Hughton admitted they could become a hindrance. He said: "You know if you are winning, losing, winning and losing games, you are generally picking up more points then drawing games and we are losing out on points.

"But at this moment in time, I cannot fault what the players are giving and if you had said to me that we would be in the position we are at this stage of the season then I would have been delighted."

Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal hailed his players for stretching their own unbeaten run to 11 games, with a fourth clean sheet in five outings.

The Portuguese said: "Eleven matches unbeaten is fantastic. Brighton are a very good team, the way they play is similar to us. It was a tactical game and the way the teams played the result was correct.

"They created some chances, so did we, but it is important to match strong teams and we have another point. We are still in a good position - seven points from three games is a good return.

"I don't want to kill expectations of the fans, but we must understand that we are in a very strong competition and Brighton are one of the strongest sides. I am very proud of my players."
