Bees sting Saddlers

A well-taken goal by Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson handed Walsall their first home defeat of the season as the Bees triumphed 1-0.

Donaldson scored in the 27th minute with a glancing header from a deep cross by lively winger Myles Weston.

With better finishing in the second half Donaldson could have had a hat-trick.

Walsall were awful in the first half as Brentford played all the football. But it was a different story after the break, although had Donaldson not slipped as he shot in the 50th minute Walsall's hopes would have been dashed.

However, the Saddlers showed far more fight after the break and were unlucky not to equalise after 65 minutes when top scorer Ryan Jarvis hit the inside of the post with a fierce 25-yard shot.

Walsall piled on the pressure with time running out and had a chance to save a point in stoppage time but Alex Nicholls saw his rising effort beaten away by Bees goalkeeper Richard Lee.
