Brentford's plans to move to a new stadium have been given a massive lift after they were handed the option to buy a seven-acre site at Lionel Road.
The site, a former goods yard, was identified as the preferred relocation for the Bees in 2002.
Under the club's proposal, their existing Griffin Park ground will be redeveloped for residential housing once the new stadium is built.
Chairman Greg Dyke told the club's official website: "This is a major milestone and a huge step forward for the club.
"We need a modern new stadium, we want to keep the club in Brentford, and we want a brighter financial future which will mean we can compete more effectively in the Football League.
"This deal will help us do all three."
