A late goal from Cleveland Taylor salvaged a point for Brentford as Southampton were denied a first win.Left-back Dan Harding scored from close range for Saints after good play from Rickie Lambert. The Bees were soon on level terms when Ryan Dickson crossed for Taylor to convert with a diving header. Morgan Schneiderlin was denied by Bees keeper Lewis Price while Southampton counterpart Kelvin Davis made a smart save to thwart Kevin O'Connor. Southampton manager Alan Pardew told BB Radio Solent: "We're a fairly new team, but when they had the ball we were a lot better today." "At set-pieces we were stronger and the disciplines we've installed are starting to bear fruits on that front." "What bothered me more was our control of the ball at times . We can't play Brentfords game - it's not what we're about and it's not what I want to do . We dealt with them but we didn't play our game enough." Brentford manager Andy Scott told BBC London 94.9 "I'm absolutely delighted. I thought defensively we were good but we certainly threatened them a hell of a lot and possibly could've won it. "I thought it was a disappointing to concede the goal when we did. We had a lot of opportunities and hit the post in the first half. They had a lot of chances in the first half but that's inevitable with the side they've got out. "But we gave them a hell of a game and in the end we had them ion the back foot."
