Smith earns Bees reward

Brentford have handed a one-year contract to former MK Dons midfielder Gary Smith after he impressed while on trial at Griffin Park.

The 23-year-old had been with the Dons since March 2004, having initially joined the club on loan from Middlesbrough.

Smith went on to score 12 goals in 90 appearances for the Dons, but was allowed to leave Milton Keynes at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, the Bees recorded a 1-0 victory over a Chelsea XI on Tuesday evening, with summer recruit Alan Connell heading home the only goal of the game midway through the second half.
