Former Middlesbrough trainee Gary Smith has penned an 18-month extension to his current Brentford contract. The 23-year-old midfielder, who moved to Griffin Park from MK Dons last summer, has played a key role in the Bees' revival under new boss Andy Scott. Scott is delighted that Smith has committed himself to the club, telling Brentford's official website: "I feel that for the time that I've been in charge he's been one of many who have impressed. "I feel that with more games he will improve still further and add to the team. "Certainly for the first part of the season it must have been difficult for Gary to settle, but he impressed me enough to give him a chance and he's taken it with both hands. "I believe that Gary is an integral part of the team and that he will continue to be so for a long time to come."
