Mortimer hails spot-kick kid
18 Oct 2006 - 15:17:55
Teenage goalkeeper Clark Masters was hailed by Brentford's assistant boss Paul Mortimer following their penalty shoot-out win at Northampton in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old stole the show at the Sixfields when the tie went straight into a penalty shoot-out following a goalless draw over the 90 minutes, saving Andy Kirk's spot-kick in a 4-2 success.
And Mortimer singled him out for special praise following the game as the Bees will now travel to Nottingham Forest in the second round.
He said: "Clark Masters had a great game in goal.
"We didn't practice penalties; we just asked who wanted to take one. But it's the goalkeeper who gives the penalty-takers a lift, especially by saving the first one, as Clark did."
