Dickson suffers with swine flu
30 Jul 2009 - 12:51:14
It has been confirmed that Brentford defender Ryan Dickson has been diagnosed with the swine flu virus.
The left-back, who caught the disease while in Marbella on his team's training camp, managed to play in the friendlies against Staines, Ipswich and Aldershot on his return to England, before becoming overwhelmed by the illness.
A club insider told the Hounslow Chronicle: "Ryan had a chest infection against Staines and his condition worsened during the week.
"The antibiotics weren't working and after the Aldershot game he felt terrible. Ryan was told to stay at home for seven days."
He has since returned to training and is expected to be considered for the Bees' final pre-season match against Hayes & Yeading on Saturday.
Dickson isn't the first footballer to have contracted the virus. Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards also suffered from the condition after a holiday in Cyprus.
