Late checks for Bees trio

Brentford will hand fitness checks to Adam Forshaw, Harlee Dean and Sam Saunders ahead of the visit of Gillingham on Friday night.

Midfielder Forshaw, one of the Bees' key players this season, has missed the last two matches with a calf strain but is edging closer to fitness.

Defender Dean is carrying a groin injury and winger Saunders sat out last weekend's 1-1 draw against Walsall after failing to shake off a knock.

Club captain Kevin O'Connor will step in at centre-half again if Dean is ruled out, while new loan signing Alan Judge filled in for Forshaw against the Saddlers and Will Grigg replaced Saunders.

Gillingham boss Peter Taylor is unlikely to make change.

Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee are closing in on returns from ankle and knee problems respectively but even if the pair are available, Taylor is not expected to change things from the 2-0 win over Swindon on Saturday.

Michael Harriman will continue in midfield after his move further forward at the weekend saw him score the second goal against the Robins. Elliott Hewitt will keep his place at right back.

Danny Kedwell is out for a month having undergone a hernia operation while Matt Fish remains on the comeback trail from his long-term knee ligament injury.
