Bees sack Fitzgerald

Brentford have axed manager Scott Fitzgerald following their relegation from League One.

A 3-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra confirmed the Bees' drop to League Two and chairman Greg Dyke has decided to make immediate changes, with Barry Quin placed in caretaker charge.

Dyke told the club's official website: "The best thing we can say about this season is that it is now effectively over and we are sorry it has been such a disaster.

"The entire focus now is to rebuild for next season, thus giving us the best opportunity to bounce straight back into League One.

"We plan to appoint a new manager in the very near future."
