Brechin hit for six

Allan Johnston's dream start to life as Dunfermline boss continued after he watched his side open their Scottish League One season with a thumping 6-1 win at Brechin.

Johnston's tenure began with routs over Arbroath and Cowdenbeath in cup competitions and he watched on as a brace from Faissal El Bakhtaoui and goals from Michael Moffat, Joe Cardle and substitutes Ryan Wallace and Josh Falkingham wrapped up another convincing triumph.

Moroccan striker El Bakhtaoui needed just eight minutes to open his league account for the new campaign, poking home the rebound after his initial strike was saved.

Dunfermline doubled their lead midway through the first half as Moffat headed home from Cardle's cross before the provider turned goalscorer after 31 minutes with a booming strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

El Bakhtaoui rose unchallenged to head in the fourth a minute before half-time before Wallace and Falkingham added gloss to the scoreline in the final 10 minutes in-between David Weatherston's consolation for Brechin.
