Wasps sting Brechin in semi

Alloa put themselves firmly in command of their Championship play-off semi-final after claiming a 2-0 win at Brechin.

The Championship's second bottom side started well but it took until the 21st minute for them to create the first chance of the evening, Michael Doyle hooking his shot wide after good work from Mark Docherty.

Michael Chopra fired wide before Docherty was not too far away with an audacious chipped attempt that cleared the crossbar.

Iain Flannigan had the best chance of the half in stoppage-time as he flicked the ball goalwards from Docherty's ball in, but goalkeeper Graeme Smith pulled off a superb save.

The Wasps took the lead in the 56th minute when Ryan McCord's ball into the box was knocked down by Liam Buchanan and Chopra slammed home.

Kevin Cawley almost caught out Smith with a curling effort but the goalkeeper managed to palm the ball to safety.

But Alloa put themselves firmly in control of the tie at the death when Kyle Benedictus headed in Flannigan's floated corner.
