Word Cup 2014 - 71 days to go: Players - Neymar

Neymar da Silva Santos Junior is of course the Brazilian poster boy tipped to follow his success at the Confederations Cup with more international glory on his home soil at the World Cup finals.

Neymar is considered a phenomenon, combining both electric pace and great dribbling ability and play-making creativity. Often playing as a striker who also drifts to the wings due to his pace and is often compared with fellow Brazilian Ronaldinho. Certainly the hopes of the Brazilian nation will be pinned on Neymar who must deal with that immense pressure and somehow match on his performance at the Confederations Cup.

At club level Neymar has not made what you would call a dream start but he is settling in at Barca scoring 9 goals in 23 appearances to date including an important one against Spanish rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Neymar was reported to have been sold to Barcelona from Santos for £48.6m although the transfer is being investigated by the prosecutor’s office in Madrid.

Whilst he is considered to require strengthening to move forward in European football he has no such issues when playing for Brazil, winning accolades such as player of the tournament at the Confederations Cup which Brazil won with an emphatic 3-0 win over Spain in the final. Neymar has made 47 senior appearances for Brazil, scoring 30 goals since 2010.
