We are not the favourites - Dunga

Brazil boss Dunga insists his team are not the favourites to win the Copa America title as they prepare to face Peru in their Group C opener.

The Selecao are determined to banish painful memories of their poor performance during the last World Cup, where they were humiliated by both Germany - losing 7-1 in the semi-finals - and Holland, on home turf and in front of their own fans.

They have made excellent progress under Dunga, who has led Brazil to 10 wins from 10 games against the likes of Colombia, Argentina and France.

Before Sunday's encounter at the Estadio Municipal German Becker in Tomuco, he told O Globo: "We are not the favourites.

"The favourites are Chile, because they are playing at home, and Argentina, because they were the runners-up at the World Cup.

"Then there are other teams, such as Brazil and Uruguay, who have less of a chance of winning.

"It will be a well-balanced and difficult competition as the South Americans nations have all improved."

Paris St Germain defender David Luiz added: "After the World Cup, the squad is much more mature and experienced.

"I believe we can win the title. Football gives you the chance to rehabilitate quickly.

"If we manage to win it we will be very happy and so will the fans. It is a nice competition in which to start preparing for the World Cup in Russia."

In the other Group C clash, Jose Pekerman's Colombia team meet Venezuela in Rancagua.
