The nephew of Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has been killed in a car accident just two days before the team's World Cup opener, police have confirmed.

Tarcisio Joao Schneider, the 48-year-old son of one of Scolari's sisters, died in a crash on Tuesday morning after being in collision with a truck in Bitrem, in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.

It is less than a month since Scolari left Brazil's training camp outside Rio de Janeiro to travel to Porto Alegre for the funeral of his brother-in-law.

The Brazilian Football Federation would not confirm whether Scolari has plans to travel during the World Cup to be with his family.
