The Estadio Nacional de Brasilia opened in 2013 in the city of Brasilia and was constructed on the site of the old Estadio Mane Garrincha, which was earlier completely demolished.

Various strikes and delays have plagued the project and reportedly cost nearly 50% more than originally planned.

The stadium officially opened in May 2013 with a friendly match between local sides Brasilia and Brasiliense. No long term tenant is in place to take over the stadium after the World Cup but it is expected to be used for high-profile matches.

The Estadio Nacional de Brasilia is set to host seven match during the World Cup, which will include one quarter-final and the play-off between 3rd and 4th place.
