Brazil great Socrates left hospital in Sao Paulo after 10 days of treatment for a serious stomach hemorrhage, the Albert Einstein Hospital said in a statement Thursday.

It was the second time in two months Socrates, 57, had been treated in the facility for the same problem. The bleeding was said to be related to high blood pressure.

The former player, who was captain of the national side in the 1980s, had spent several days in intensive care, underlining the gravity of his condition.

News photos showed a visibly weakened Socrates leaving the hospital. He was to continue with medical care at home.

His wife, Katia Bagnarelli, had recently suggested the possibility of him receiving a liver transplant if his condition worsened.
