Arena da Amazonia - World Cup 2014
The Arena de Amazonia has been purpose built for the 2014 World Cup after Manaus was selected as a host city for the tournament. The new stadium takes the place of the old Vivaldao Stadium which was the city main footballing venue.
The old stadium, Vivaldao was demolished by early 2011, allowing construction of the new stadium to begin soon after. The Arena da Amazonia was planned to be completed for early 2013 but various delays pushed the opening back to 2014.
The Arena da Amazonia is set to host four group matches and will be used by local sides Nacional Futebol Clube, Rio Negro, Sao Raimundo, Fast Clube and Sul America before and after the World Cup.
