The Arena de Sao Paulo or 'Arena Corinthians' has been purpose built as a match venue for the 2014 World Cup and also to give Corinthians a new stadium.

Work started on the stadium in May 2011 and were planned to finish in December of 2013 but an accident with a crane, which resulted in the deaths of two workers after a partial roof collapse meant that the completion date was pushed back to 2014.

The venue will seat around 48,000 spectators but this number will increase by 20,000 during World Cup matches. The Arena de Sao Paulo is set to host the opening match of the 2014 World Cup plus three additional group matches, a round of 16 match and also one of the two semi-finals.
