Signings difficult for McCall

Bradford City manager Stuart McCall has all but admitted defeat in his attempts to sign Dean Furman on a permanent deal, while efforts to sign Gareth Evans from Macclesfield Town are faltering.

Furman spent last term on loan at Valley Parade from Rangers, impressing enough to persuade McCall to court his signature on a long-term deal.

However, the 21-year-old is attracting interest from clubs in higher divisions, which may scupper the Bantams' bid to keep him in League Two. Oldham are thought to be leading the race to sign Furman.

"We've been very good with Deano and he's been terrific for us," McCall told the Telegraph & Argus.

"I know he loved his time here and would like to come back but, in fairness, he wants to play at the highest level possible.

"As much as we've done everything we can to get him back, I think he'll be joining a League One club if they can come up with the (compensation) money that Rangers are looking for.

"We've waited a little while to try to get him and I'm disappointed but I can see that he wants to play at a higher level if the chance is there."

Meanwhile, McCall also confirmed that he is targeting Evans, but is not prepared to pay the fee the Silkmen are demanding for the player.

"We've made an enquiry but at the moment nothing will be happening because of the fee that Macclesfield are after," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
